About the Role:

data.org is building a better future with data and is looking for creative, results-driven professionals passionate about the potential of data and technology to achieve social impact. As a platform for partnerships, we work alongside social impact organizations, philanthropy, technology firms, and academia to build the field of data for social impact together. As a fully remote and global organization, data.org seeks individuals with strong prioritization and collaboration skills.

In the nearly three years since its launch, data.org has built a strong digital presence with a distinctive brand, a robust content strategy, and curated online and in-person events. The Communications Manager will be a member of a high-performing team, including communications, product, and analytics functions, to ensure data.org is reaching its core audiences and is effectively listening to and engaging with the broader data for social impact community. This role will focus primarily on several important data.org communications channels: events, social media, and email. For these channels, strong writing, follow-up, and attention to detail are essential.

The role will report to the Chief Marketing Officer, and work in close collaboration with Communications Manager, Initiatives, and the Digital Content Lead. This role is also an important contributor to our partnerships, ensuring our communications are aligned with the communications teams of our funding and building partners. We’re excited to bring on a committed, collaborative individual who brings strong communications expertise and a passion for social impact. This role is fully remote; occasional travel, including international travel, may be required. This is a full-time, overtime-exempt role.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage the execution of data.org events online and offline, including writing event description, drafting run of show, supporting speakers, and working with vendors to deliver the events.
  • Support the execution of external events with data.org participation, pitching event topic and speaker applications, contributing to run of show, supporting data.org staff and partner speakers, and serving as point person for external event staff on all logistics.
  • On a day-to-day basis, manage data.org’s social media accounts by creating original content and engaging with our online community, and measuring progress through defined KPIs.
  • Conceive campaigns and draft content for social media in support of specific campaigns.
  • Curate and produce monthly newsletter for data.org, reporting on existing priorities and programs and amplifying opportunities and jobs from the broader community.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Draft, manage, and disseminate content creation for communication outlets including but not limited to: press releases, toolkits, newsletters, blog posts, website content, and reports.
  • Ensure consistency in content, branding, language, and messaging across all public-facing platforms.
  • Manage existing brand assets, working with the Digital Content Lead and external vendors to update when needed.
  • Contribute to quick turnaround communications needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-10 years of work experience in communications at a purpose-driven organization
  • Experience managing virtual and in-person events with collaboration with vendors on delivery
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, particularly with email and social media campaigns
  • Experience with paid, earned, and social media, and managing to KPIs
  • Ability to comprehend complex concepts and translate them into language and outreach for broad audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well on a fully remote and global team
  • Fluency in marketing and office software, from CRM to Slack
  • Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment for high-visibility projects and events
  • Extremely well organized, detail-oriented, and analytical
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, strong problem-solving skills, and creative thinking skills

Salary & Benefit Information:

Salary: $80,000 – $85,000/yr

Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance; 3% automatic contribution and a 3% employer match on 401(k) contributions; pre-tax transportation benefits; and paid holiday, vacation, sick, and volunteer time off.

This role offers a competitive salary based on the candidate’s location, i.e. the annual salary for the position for a candidate based in the US would be $80,000- 85,000. The salary will be adjusted based on the cost of labor and other required employee benefits in the city/country in which the candidate resides. The benefits offered will be based on what is customary or required in the country where the candidate resides.
