Made possible by funding from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), data.org launched the Latin America (LATAM) Data Capacity Accelerator to advance public health intelligence. In partnership with the University of Javeriana, the Latam Accelerator is building a workforce of digital health professionals to support government agencies, ministries of health, community health workers, and other health and data science experts to accelerate data-driven decision-making in public health crises.

The LATAM Accelerator is developing training resources to capture, share, and analyze health data effectively. This program builds off the University of Javeriana’s Epi Training Kit (EpiTKit), an open-access digital training resource on public health data science and infectious disease modeling. data.org and Javeriana are collaborating as part of CAN to translate and culturally adapt the EpiTKit materials for African countries, ensuring linguistic clarity, technical accuracy, local case studies, and cultural relevance to facilitate effective learning experiences.

Additionally, the project is exploring the use of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) to unlock insights from financial transaction data, combined with health data to provide insights for public health preparedness.
