Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD)

Florence Nguuni is a data scientist and public health professional whose work sits at the intersection of climate research, health equity, and data-driven advocacy. With a background in population health and specialised training in data science and monitoring and evaluation, she has built a career on making complex health data legible and useful, turning numbers into narratives that move people and shape decisions.

As a Research Fellow on the Africa Climate and Health Data Capacity Accelerator Network at the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, Florence led pioneering research on the relationship between climate change and cancer risks in Kenya. In this role, she designed and implemented data collection methodologies, produced dynamic visual reports using Power BI, and engaged over 200 stakeholders including national policymakers and health institutions through policy briefs, workshops, and presentations that have shaped ongoing health and climate conversations at the national level.

Beyond her research work, Florence is committed to building the next generation of climate advocates. In 2025, she conceptualised and implemented the inaugural Nairobi Children’s Climate Summit in partnership with Eden Climate Centre, bringing together fifty children from Kibera and seven community organisations to advance children’s participation in climate policy and decision-making processes.

Florence’s experience spans public health programme coordination, freelance data science consulting, and community-facing health initiatives, giving her a grounded understanding of how data can serve not just analysis, but advocacy and systemic change. She is especially passionate about building the evidence base that social impact organisations and philanthropic actors need to make bold, informed decisions, particularly in contexts where health and climate pressures intersect.
