Responsibilities

Lead CHAI’s AI Strategy Across Countries and Programs

  • Set and drive a bold vision for CHAI’s AI strategy, working closely with senior leadership to define how AI can transform health delivery and accelerate impact across CHAI’s global portfolio.
  • Operate entrepreneurially to identify and shape a portfolio of high-impact AI programs spanning CHAI’s country offices and technical clusters, targeting opportunities where AI can most cost-effectively improve health outcomes.
  • Lead the identification and scoping of AI interventions with the greatest potential for cost-effective impact in LMICs, supporting a broader learning agenda to inform future donor investment and evidence-driven program design.
  • Coordinate with country and program teams to ensure alignment with national goals, funding pathways, and CHAI’s organizational mission, translating strategy into concrete, measurable actions.
  • Strengthen CHAI’s role as a global thought leader in AI by driving external visibility, active engagement with global partners, and meaningful contributions to the discourse on responsible and impactful AI deployment in LMICs.
  • Engage strategically in thought leadership forums, elevate CHAI’s innovations through publications and global convenings, and help shape the emerging narrative around AI in global health.
  • In parallel, support the development of internal capabilities—such as AI literacy, cross-team coordination, and organizational readiness—to ensure CHAI remains a leader in responsible innovation.

Build a motivated, results-driven, and dedicated AI team

  • Recruit, manage, and mentor a high-performing team capable of operating across a matrixed organization.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration, ensuring clear ownership and measurable outcomes.
  • Support internal capacity building to increase AI literacy and cross-functional alignment around AI objectives.

Serve as a key advisor to internal teams, external partners, and governments

  • Advise CHAI program teams, governments, and global partners on strategy, implementation, and policy relevant to responsible AI adoption.
  • Shape national and subnational AI-enabling environments, including policy, governance, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Represent CHAI’s AI work externally, contributing to global forums and thought leadership, and cultivating strategic partnerships.
  • Lead fundraising efforts by engaging donors, developing proposals, and articulating a compelling AI vision aligned with CHAI’s mission.

Skillset

  • Bachelors in CS, data science, public health, economics, or public policy (Masters in public health / public policy is beneficial but not necessary to apply).
  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in strategy development, program leadership, or global health innovation, with a proven track record in AI or digital health environments.
  • Deep understanding of AI’s potential and challenges within global health contexts, including applications in diagnostics, predictive analytics, patient engagement, and AI governance.
  • Demonstrated experience owning AI/ML product lifecycle from conception to deployment, including business case development, technology vendor selection, procurement management, and leading cross-functional implementation teams.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts and strategic trade-offs to varied audiences, with preference for experience in resource-constrained or LMIC settings.
  • Demonstrated expertise in engaging governments, donors, and multilateral stakeholders to implement complex, multi-stakeholder AI-driven initiatives successfully.
  • Exceptional strategic, analytical, problem-solving, and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership abilities.
