Support the creation and dissemination of innovative analytics through impactful data visualizations, dashboards, and web-based applications.

Responsibilities

  • Create custom, updatable, sustainable, and multidimensional data visualizations in the form of dashboards, charts, graphs, infographics, etc. to support knowledge acquisition, storytelling, and decision-making.
  • Design and create interactive data experiences such as web-based applications for data visualization as needed for organizational, donor-facing and open data from multiple data sources.
  • Develop, maintain and own The Hive’s style guidelines in coordination with UNHCR for data visualizations and other external facing outputs.
  • Create data analyses for emergency projects or data issues; use data science / data visualization to evaluate and fix related data infrastructure bugs.
  • Prepare data for visualization by cleaning and contributing to maintenance of data quality across different organizational repositories; proficiency in knowledge management of data is preferred.
  • Develop programs and fix bugs within the Hive’s codebase that enable internal teams achieve their business goals.

Skillset

  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in creating data visualizations for a public audience, working with large databases for analysis and engineering; Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Data Visualization, Computer Science or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
  • In lieu of education/degree requirements and preferences, a successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to:
    • Develop and deliver dashboards, interactive visualizations, and web-based applications that meet organizational and user needs.
    • Communicate technical data effectively to non-technical audiences, ensuring clarity and impact.
    • Apply data visualization best practices to align with organizational branding and accessibility standards.
  • Ability to apply basic statistical concepts and techniques for data analysis and interpretation, ensuring insights are accurate and meaningful.
  • Proficiency in web development principles and design, including creating intuitive, user-centric web-based applications and interfaces tailored for data visualization.
  • Experience in both front-end and back-end programming, with the ability to develop efficient, scalable, and maintainable code for data-driven applications.
  • Skilled in preparing, cleaning, and analyzing data of various types, formats, and volumes to ensure quality and consistency for visualization and reporting.
  • Proficiency in programming and version control with knowledge of Python, JavaScript, SQL, HTML/CSS, and related frameworks; Capable of writing reusable, collaborative code and managing it effectively using GitHub and Git for version control.
  • Ability to assess needs and choose the most effective types of data visualizations, charts, and tools to meet organizational goals and audience requirements.
  • Strong aptitude for translating complex technical data into clear, accessible, and visually compelling formats for non-technical audiences, facilitating informed decision-making and engagement.
