Merck for Mothers

Dr. Mary-Ann Etiebet has two decades of experience improving health care outcomes for vulnerable populations and transforming health care delivery at the frontlines. She is AVP, Health Equity, Merck and the Lead of Merck for Mothers*, Merck’s $500M global health initiative to help create a world where no woman has to die while giving life. Since 2011, Merck for Mothers programs and partnerships have resulted in healthy pregnancies and safe deliveries for over 13M women in 48 global sites.

Building on her experiences as a physician, researcher, implementer, funder and advocate across the public, private and global development sectors, Dr. Etiebet brings a diverse set of perspectives to this work. Under her leadership, Merck for Mothers is catalyzing partnerships that leverage private sector capabilities to strengthen health systems, deliver respectful, high quality care for women and improve maternal health outcomes.

Dr. Etiebet holds an MD and MBA from Yale University. She is a member of the Center for Global Development Board of Directors, the UCSF Institute Health Sciences Global Health Group Advisory Board and the High-Level Commission on the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25. She also serves as the private sector representative on the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health Board and the Investors Group of the World Bank’s Global Financing Facility.
