Dr. Kenneth Enwerem is a medical doctor and epidemiologist with over a decade of experience in global health security, infectious disease surveillance, and data-driven public health interventions. Currently serving as the Senior Surveillance and Global Health Security Officer at the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN), he leads initiatives strengthening pandemic preparedness, disease monitoring, and outbreak response across Nigeria. His work bridges frontline field epidemiology with advanced data analytics, including geospatial mapping, R programming, and infectious disease modeling.
Dr. Enwerem’s expertise spans key projects such as the Acute Febrile Illness Surveillance Project (AFIS) and the Vaccine Coverage Mapping Pilot under INFORM Africa, where he collaborates with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and international partners to optimize health systems. His tenure with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Nigeria and Uganda further honed his skills in operational research, emergency response, and capacity building in resource-limited settings. He is also a certified data analysis in R programming trainer with Applied Epi where he contributes to capacity building of field epidemiologists across the globe.
A passionate advocate for evidence-based policymaking, he has contributed to peer-reviewed publications on SARS-CoV-2 transmission dynamics, sickle cell disease interventions, and surgical outreach cost-effectiveness. He holds an MPH from the Royal Tropical Institute (Netherlands) and is pursuing a Fellowship in Infectious Disease Modelling.
As an Epiverse Fellow, Dr. Enwerem is committed to leveraging open-source tools to advance equitable health solutions in Nigeria, combining his technical proficiency in data science with grassroots public health experience.
