Luis Fernando Múnera Congote, S.J.

Father Luis Fernando Múnera Congote, of the Society of Jesus, holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the Pontifical Javeriana University, a bachelor’s degree in theology, and a doctorate in philosophy from the Centre Sèvres in Paris. He has been Rector of the Pontifical Javeriana University since March 2023. Before assuming the rectorship, he served as assistant for discernment and planning to Father Hermann Rodríguez Osorio, S.J., Provincial of the Jesuits in Colombia.

At the Pontifical Javeriana University, he served as dean of the School of Political Science and International Relations from September 2016 to December 2020, advisor to the academic vice-rector, and co-director of the University Planning Program on Peace and Reconciliation. He was an associate professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at Javeriana, where he served as program director. At Javeriana in Cali, he worked in the area of social formation and coordinated the Specialization in Ethics and Values, where he also served as a professor of Ethics, Politics, and Philosophy.

Between 2001 and 2003, he was executive director of the Society of Jesus’ Peace Program in Colombia and worked in the formation of Jesuits in the country. He served on the Board of Regents of Javeriana University from August 2012 to November 2019.
