Mario Bañuelos, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Mathematics at California State University, Fresno.
Originally from the small agricultural town of Delano, California, Mario is a first-generation college student. He earned his B.A. in Mathematics from California State University, Fresno (Fresno State), and obtained his Ph.D. in Applied Math from the University of California, Merced under the guidance of Professor Suzanne Sindi.
Mario’s research group focuses on mathematical biology, optimization, statistical models for genome evolution, and data science. Additionally, Mario passionately works to bring more research opportunities to the Central Valley and creates positive impact in the community through culturally sustaining research and teaching.
