Samuel Rwunganira

DHIS2 Data Triangulation Project Coordinator

African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET)

Samuel Rwunganira is an experienced epidemiologist with over 12 years in public health. He earned a master’s degree in Field Epidemiology and Laboratory at the University of Rwanda.

In the year 2021, Samuel assumed a pivotal role as the Coordinator for the DHIS2 Data Triangulation Project in Rwanda. This project aims to harmonize multiple data sources for Vaccine-Preventable Disease (VPD) surveillance and routine immunization indicators. He helped develop a dashboard that automates the monitoring of immunity gaps and program performance to support the decision-making processes.

Before embarking on this role with the DHIS2 project, Samuel served as a Field Coordinator. In this capacity, he provided guidance and coordination for master’s students engaged in the FETP program during their field placements. His mentorship played a critical role in nurturing and shaping the next generation of epidemiologists and data specialists.

Between 2012 and 2021, Samuel worked as the Non-Communicable Diseases Epidemiologist and Research Assistant at the Rwanda Biomedical Centre. During this tenure, he has used surveillance data to extract invaluable epidemiological insights that in turn informed program strategies.

He made contributions in numerous articles on outbreak investigations, non-communicable diseases, and maternal health.
