Responsible for leading a program that covers workers throughout the AI supply chain (especially data enrichment workers), as well as AI’s impacts on the broader labor market and economy.
Responsibilities
- Content Leadership & Expertise
- Apply expertise on the AI value chain to identify viable courses of action to advance worker well-being, including but not limited to (1) the development of new programmatic work, (2) advancement of existing work, (3) cultivation or strengthening of stakeholder relationships, and (4) creation of content for the AILE program.
- Lead and execute convenings, workshops, steering committees, and/or working groups to advance AILE programmatic work.
- Collaborate with diverse stakeholder groups to advance practice in the field, and steward Partner and stakeholder relationships.
- Provide thought leadership on AI’s effects on workers, labor markets, and economic structures.
- Stay ahead of AI trends, analyzing their current and anticipated impacts on the workforce and broader economy.
- Build upon knowledge of existing and frontier AI systems to inform policy, strategy, funding, and programmatic efforts across PAI.
- Represent PAI at conferences and other public forums to maintain visibility and credibility within the broader AI community.
Strategic Planning & Vision
- Develop and execute a strategy for the AILE program to advance AI governance in ways that promote positive labor and economic outcomes.
- Synthesize insights from AI technology, labor dynamics and economics, public policy, and business model evolution to inform PAI strategic priorities and projects.
- Communicate in a structured, clear way to diverse audience.
- Identify opportunities across the organization to amplify impact of the AILE team.
- Ensure the AILE program strategy remains adaptable to the evolving needs of the AI field, while staying aligned with PAI’s collaborative approach and organizational goals.
Project & Team Management
- Lead projects from ideation to execution and post-project impact assessment.
- Manage and mentor a team, fostering a team culture of professional development, ownership, high well-being, and high performance and establishing a work environment conducive to PAI’s Values of Trust, Justice, Respect, and Compassion.
- Maintain strong communication channels across the organization to ensure alignment and transparency.
- Establish and track performance metrics related to the AILE program, including reach, relationships, and programmatic impact; regularly report and share updates on these metrics to key internal and external audiences.
- In partnership with the CPIO and Finance, lead the resourcing, budgeting, and responsible financial management of the AILE program.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
- Engage effectively and build consensus among a wide range of stakeholders, including industry leaders, labor advocates, researchers, policymakers, and civil society organizations.
- Serve as a public ambassador of PAI and the AILE program by engaging with media, policymakers, PAI’s partner community, and other external stakeholders.
- Cultivate and manage strong external and internal relationships, ensuring timely and proactive communication.
- Partner collaboratively across PAI staff teams to drive engagement and progress for the AILE program, and to advance broader PAI objectives.
Skillset
- 7+ years of relevant and progressively responsible experience at the intersection of responsible AI, labor advocacy, and research focused on AI, labor, economics, and the future of work.
- A graduate degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in economics, sociology, computer science, labor studies or in a related discipline.
- Deep expertise in AI, labor, and economic topics, with a strong understanding of how AI trends impact workers and society.
- Background in AI industry, labor organizations, consulting, academia, or civil society.
- Demonstrated strategic thinker with the ability to structure and synthesize insights across technology, labor, government, and business.
- Proven ability to build trust and consensus in diverse multi-stakeholder settings, including convening stakeholders with differing perspectives and spanning multiple sectors to deliberate complex issues.
- Ability to anticipate trends in AI and develop actionable strategies that ensure AI serves the broader economic and social good.
- Familiarity with frontier AI systems and their societal impacts, with deeper technical expertise an advantage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical and policy insights into accessible messaging for diverse audiences.
- Experienced people manager with a coaching-oriented leadership style and dedication to developing and retaining outstanding talent.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating across teams to successfully deliver high-impact, high-priority projects.
