In A Nutshell
Support a range of functions across the Data and Research team to shed light on anti-Asian American and anti-Pacific Islander racism and ways to address it.
Responsibilities
Data Collection and Analysis
- Provide real-time monitoring of reports submitted to SAH’s reporting center and flag reports for rapid/crisis response.
- Qualitatively code anti-AA/PI hate acts submitted to SAH’s reporting center.
- Manage and fulfill internal and external requests for reporting center data.
- Support regular updates to SAH’s anti-AA/PI hate coding system.
- Perform standardized data cleaning and data quality tasks.
- Assist with the development of data tools (e.g., dashboards) for internal and external stakeholders.
Research and Reporting
- Conduct academic literature searches and additional research as needed.
- Provide general assistance with research projects, report writing, and presentations.
- Fact check SAH communications involving hate act data.
- Coordinate report briefings and events and manage logistics.
- Coordinate translation projects (e.g., translation of research reports, translation of SAH’s reporting center form).
- Track citations and research outcomes.
Administrative Duties
- Increase awareness of the SAH reporting center through community outreach support.
- Provide administrative support for Data and Research team members such as scheduling meetings and processing contractor payments.
- Perform thorough note-taking to document team meetings, research presentations, and discussions with research partners.
- Manage and organize internal team drives and documents.
Other Duties
- Contribute to fundraising and development activities such as attending funder events.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the organization.
- Contribute to positive work environment in alignment with organizational values.
Skillset
- Strong commitment to the mission and values of Stop AAPI Hate and Chinese for Affirmative Action, including a commitment to social justice, equity, and civic engagement.
- Bachelor’s degree in social science, ethnic studies, public policy, public health, or related field, or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
- 1-2 years of experience (may include coursework) with qualitative and quantitative social science research, including data collection, qualitative data coding, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Experience conducting academic literature searches.
- Detail-oriented and excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively with teammates and a diverse set of stakeholders and collaborators.
- Flexible, self-starter, comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with Google Workspace (G Suite) and a desire to learn new skills and tools as needed.
- Familiarity with data and research tools such as R, Tableau, Excel, and Dedoose (preferred).
- Experience working with Pacific Islander and/or South Asian communities (a plus).
