Physician trained at Universidad de los Andes, Specialist in Clinical Epidemiology from Universidad del Rosario, and Specialist in Medical Genetics from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Kelly Joane Leon Torres is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence. She serves as an Instructor Professor at the Institute of Human Genetics at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where she teaches medical genetics at both undergraduate and graduate levels and coordinates the clinical evaluation of patients with orphan diseases affiliated with Diagnosis Ofelia. She also practices as a clinical medical geneticist at Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá, Biotecgen, and Celagem.
She is the Principal Investigator of Diagnosis Ofelia and is affiliated with research groups and registries focused on the study of orphan diseases, rare diseases, and conditions with a genetic component. In her clinical practice, she works as a geneticist evaluating patients with genetically based conditions and as an analyst of molecular studies aimed at diagnosis, including next-generation sequencing and clinical-molecular correlation. Her interests lie at the intersection of clinical genetics, epidemiology, and artificial intelligence. She has also developed expertise in preconception and prenatal genetics, including counseling on preconception testing and follow-up care for pregnant women with genetic risk.
