The 2024 EIOS Global Technical Meeting (GTM) is co-hosted by the WHO Regional Office for Africa (AFRO), with gracious support from the European Commission’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA). Since 2018, the Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources (EIOS) Global Technical Meeting has been bringing together multidisciplinary experts with a keen interest in the field of Public Health Intelligence (PHI) from all over the world.
Priyank Hirani will speak about inclusive and equitable responses to global challenges, including emerging public health threats, and require professionals to be equipped with the skills and tools needed to leverage data and AI effectively. Workforce development needs a locally driven, globally informed perspective. Drawing on learnings from setting up local hubs across Africa, India, Latin America, the United States, and the Asia-Pacific through data.org’s flagship initiatives, Capacity Accelerator Network (CAN) and Epiverse, this talk distills a set of guiding principles for developing a new kind of data talent through interdisciplinary curriculum design, context-specific pedagogies, and socio-technical learning approaches to ensure a future-ready Public Health Intelligence workforce.
