Han Sheng Chia is Director of the AI Initiative and Policy Fellow at the Center for Global Development, where he focuses on applying artificial intelligence to development programs and improving the use of evidence in development policy and aid sector reform. Previously, he served as senior advisor in the Office of the Chief Economist at USAID and as a senior fellow at the Global Policy Lab at the University of California, Berkeley, applying big data and remote sensing to pressing global challenges. He was vice president of innovation at GiveDirectly, where he led investments in cash delivery to the world’s poorest and grew its humanitarian practice from $1 million in seed funding to more than $100 million—including COVID-19 responses in Uganda and Togo and emergency hurricane responses in the Caribbean. Han Sheng previously held roles in management consulting and tech. He is a graduate of Brown University.
