Tracy Teal, Ph.D., is Chief Executive Officer of openRxiv, an independent nonprofit that stewards bioRxiv and medRxiv—the preprint servers that millions of researchers rely on to share work openly and rapidly. Appointed as openRxiv’s inaugural CEO in August 2025, she focuses on strengthening platforms for open science, enhancing infrastructure, and building partnerships that broaden the reach and impact of preprints. She previously served as Open Source Program Director at Posit PBC (formerly RStudio), Executive Director of Dryad, and Executive Director of The Carpentries, and is a co-founder of Data Carpentry. She has a background in bioinformatics and microbial ecology and holds a Ph.D. in Computation and Neural Systems from the California Institute of Technology. Her work centers on democratizing data—bringing people to data and data to people—with the conviction that we can go further together.
