My name is Christopher Cristwell and I’m from Fresno State University. An interesting thing about me is that I was born in Iceland. Many family members have lived there, and I’ll be going there for the second time again in December. As it relates to the presentation, I had already learned about many terrible things that have happened to indigenous communities before the presentation. One of the reasons for that was an interest after Deb Haaland was nominated to be the Interior Secretary in the United States, which was really awesome. It was really valuable to revisit some of the events that I hadn’t heard of, particularly in Brazil and the Pebble Mine, with the context of having mathematical tools now and a new perspective to be able to look at the data and potentially discover in higher detail things that weren’t necessarily easy to see beforehand. I found that to be a very good exercise.
